The Phoenix didn't get blood magic "back". They got the conflict between blood magic and kami-powered magic back. How would you phrase the return of the Harriers?

Besides, conflict is the source of drama (though I would prefer it to be a logical conflict, and not this idiotic thing).

I brought up and voted for Otomo, but Crane ninjas was definitely the winner from the second we discussed choices. It is too much of a beloved part of the Crane history. At least we aren't in fighting like the Unicorn

The vote wasn't to get the harriers back. It wasn't to get maho back. It wasn't to get anything back. I was extremely explicit on this point.

The vote was to avenge a past slight to the clan. That's all. No getting things back. We didn't even say the attempt would be successful! The door was wide open when the story option was given and the interpretation of player replies were very liberal. The players at the Crane dinner chose, almost overwhelmingly, to pursue the slight the Dragon offered when they exposed the harriers. Specifically, it was the loss of face the exposure caused the Crane. Maybe you don't like it, maybe you do, but no matter how you feel, that's what your fellow Crane players chose.

The Unicorn chose for the Shinjo to pursue the slight the Moto offered by taking over the clan. That alone should show how liberal the choices we allowed. The Crane guys at the dinner chose what they wanted, and I gave many chances for players to debate, talk, and change their minds. A few offered alternatives, including abstaining from pursuing any grudge, but although passionately argued, they gathered little steam. In the end, a grudge against the Dragon is what they chose. Overwhelmingly. You're allowed to disagree with their choice, but arguing what they should have picked instead is essentially fruitless now that the deed is far done, and our intention is to respect the choice of the players at the dinner.

As an aside, is this something that will only have happened at GenCon, or will other regions have an opportunity to do something equally fun? European Championships, South American Championships, Pacific Rim Championships, etc?
