I don´t see how option 3b is more selfish than 1. Saving the culture and people of Rokugan is selfish? When it specifically says, that we will fight against Jigoku, just not from the frontlines?

I like the analogy of museum.

We were always good and done what needed to be done...
What about Harriers? Sheltering Fudoists? We weren't always the ideal of "good".
(but this have nothing to do with path 1 vs. path 3b, because both are "good" and we do our duty in both.)

Our duties are to Makoto sama. It is up to him how best to serve the emperor/empire. 3b is a long term strategy. Sometimes it is best to know when to fight another day, such as when you are flat out told you are going to lose...

I've been out for quite a bit, and was looking to Onyx as a possible point of return. Before I get too disappointed in this result, what's the general feeling here about the depth and aspect of the "military over politics" focus represented by To Do What We Must? Will we be seeing Kakita & Doji dueling magistrates with the possibility of Honor being a feasible victory, or more Daidoji scouts? Another round of "which color guys do I use to break your Provinces" isn't especially appealing to me.

Hell, will we get To Do What We Must back as a playable card?

Dave Laderoute stuck his head in while we were debating this to clarify that Honour decks will be a viable strategy under To Do What We Must. They'll just revolve around opposed battles rather than action-phase gains.

So... duelling and magistrate-type honour, rather than courtier rocket honour. I wouldn't be surprised to see future options that let us choose between more scouts and honour stuff, but I think the outcome there will be pretty clear.

It was discussed earlier in this thread I think (with an AEG rep dropping in) that TDWWM didn't necessarily mean scouts or a lack of honour decks for Crane, which I think was the big issue with that choice. IIRC that small discussion also meant that if we (the Crane players in general not just on the forum here) wanted something that involved more Magistrates/Kakita than Iron Crane/Daidoji it could be added in at a later date.
